Vidalia welcomes Caldwell Avoyelles High's high-octane offense was in full gear against Vidalia Friday as the Mustangs outscored Vidalia 74-
"We got down 16-0 real fast and then it was an uphill battle," said Vidalia coach Gary Paul Parnham. "We passed and ran the ball well, but we couldn't stop them. Stewart (Mallory) had one of his better passing days and Jonterris (Townsend) ran as hard as he has run all year. Torrey (Smith) and Dantrell (Saul) had good nights running the ball."
Smith finished with 86 rushing yards and a touchdown, while Townsend had 59.
Saul added 47 yards on the ground.
Mallory was 8-of-15 for 160 yards with four TDs and three interceptions.
Zalon Parker had three catches for 81 yards, including two touchdowns.
Smith and Townsend also had TD catches.
"Those first two scores were big," said Avoyelles head coach Andy Boone. "Their offense surprisingly came out and pounded us. They took it to us in the second half."
Vidalia hosts Caldwell Friday.
The Spartans are 6-2 overall and 2-1 in District 3-3A.
Caldwell defeated Avoyelles 29-8 and handed Marksville a 28-10 loss on Friday.
The Spartans lost to Buckeye 35-31.
Caldwell is coached by former Rayville coach Bo Barton, the nephew of former Vidalia High coach Dee Faircloth..
"Bo's son is the quarterback and runs the offense well," Parnham said. "They run the spread and throw the football a lot. We have to be prepared to defend the pass this week."
Jacob Barton is a junior.
"Jacob passes and runs the ball well," Bo Barton said. "We have two all-district receivers in Darius Gallo and Justin Brooks.. Brett Duplissey plays wide receiver and running back. We have seven seniors on defense."
Barton said he knows Vidalia presents a big challenge.
"They have gotten a lot better than they were six weeks ago," Barton said. 'They have a lot of young kids, but they play really fast and play hard. Vidalia is going to be a formidable opponent for us." |
