AG's office sets hearing for Conner
The Louisiana Attorney General's Office has scheduled a judgment debtor rule examination Monday in Seventh Judicial District Court in Vidalia for Justin Conner.
The examination concerns $2,117.68 the Louisiana Board of Ethics says Conner owes in unpaid fines, late fees and interest for failure to file campaign finance disclosure reports relating to his unsuccessful campaign for Concordia Parish Clerk of Court in 2007.
Laura Gerdes Colligan of the Public Information Division of the Department of Justice, which operates under the Louisiana Attorney General's Office, said Conner's case is being handled through "legal processes to ascertain assets."
She said last week that Conner has not made any payments on the debt.
At a judgment debtor rule examination, the AG's office may request income tax returns, business papers, automobile titles, bank accounts and other financial materials relating to an individual's financial status.
In August, the Board of Ethics challenged Conner's candidacy for Justice of the Peace, District 1, due to the unpaid balance. Conner later withdrew from the race.
The Department of Justice provides civil legal services for the state and its agencies, including debt collection.
On June 26, 2008, the Ethics Board ordered Conner to pay $1,560 in late fees "for the failure to timely file the required campaign finance disclosure reports."
On November 14, 2011, a judgment was signed in the 19th Judicial District in East Baton Rouge Parish in that amount plus legal interest and court costs of $556.87, upping the total amount due to $2,116.87.For the full story, subscribe to the The Concordia Sentinel's NEW E-Edition! |
