Trinity finishes second
Trinity fell to Brookhaven 34-14 Friday in Brookhaven in a battle for the MAIS District 5-AA championship.
The Saints finish second and will host Silliman Friday in a first-round playoff contest.
Tanner Cage had touchdown runs of 41 and six yards for the Saints.
Friday will mark the second meeting this season for Trinity and Silliman.
"Next to the Brookhaven quarterback, Silliman's quarterback was the best we faced all year," said Trinity coach Josh Loy.
Trinity evened its record at 2-2 as the Saints defeated Silliman I 27-14 in Clinton.
The win came five days after Trinity picked up its first win, a 41-20 pasting of Bowling Green that was postponed because of Hurricane Isaac.
"That was a wild week, but that was somehow the best game we played all year," Loy said. 'They are going to be extremely motivated to beat us. Our guys knew it was a tough game the first time and it's going to take another effort like we had in the first meeting."
Cage scored Trinity's first touchdown on a 6-yard run and added a 12-yard run later in the first quarter.
Trinity led 14-7 in the third quarter as Demarcus Fleming scored on a 5-yard run. Fleming finished the scoring with a 20-yard run.
Peyton Young recovered a fumble for Trinity, while Jared Hedrick picked off a pas.
If Trinity wins, they will face the winner of the Simpson-Oak Forest contest next week. If Simpson wins and Trinity wins, the Saints would travel.
If Oak Forest and Trinity win, the Saints would be the host team.
