Story Archives: Lady Trojans look to rebound

Lady Trojans look to rebound
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Ferriday girls basketball coach Lisa Abron watched the postseason from the outside last year for the first time in her 15 years of coaching at Ferriday.

The Lady Trojans finished 4-17.

I'm been in this business long enough to know you are going to go through something like that," Abron said. "Our numbers were real low and we only had six players at the end of the year. But it looks more promising this year with a number of newcomers. We have 13 girls out and a lot more skilled players.

One of those is junior Sha'Keria Kelly, who earned Parish Player of the Year honors last season after averaging 18 points, 3.1 assists and 6.8 rebounds a game.

Abron's seniors are Michquel White and LaPorcha Griggs. Other juniors are Jazaericka Davis, Sha'Keiria Kelly, Quaneisha Fontenot and Kellishia Griffin. Sophomores are Trenace Morgan, Carolyn Dixon and Albaniesha Johnson.

Freshmen are Lakeshana Harris, Alona Bowman, Jada Griggs and Johnesia Mitchell.

"We're counting on our sophomores and freshmen to contribute and for some much-needed depth," Abron said.
