Tuscaloosa Marine Shale oil venture planned in Concordia Goodrich Petroleum Company of Houston, Texas, plans to drill in the Monterey area next year in hopes of tapping into the oil-rich Tuscaloosa Marine Shale (TMS), which stretches through the middle of Louisiana.
TMS has a potential reserve of seven billion barrels of oil, according to the Louisiana Geological Survey's Basin Research Energy Section.
"Concordia is right in the middle of the Tuscaloosa Marine Shale play area," says Dr. Madhurendu B. Kumar, Director of the Geological Oil and Gas Division at the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR).
Last week, DNR reported in a public notice that a hearing will be held Nov. 27 in Baton Rouge to hear Goodrich's plan to drill in the TMS, Reservoir A, in Concordia's North Bougere Field, east of Monterey (T4N-R9E).
The company will drill to a depth of 10,500 to 11,500 feet.
The TMC field encompasses an area from the northern Florida parishes and southwestern Mississippi westward through Louisiana to the Sabine River and into southeast Texas.
DNR reports two wells are presently being drilled within Louisiana's TMS, while 13 wells are producing. Total production in the TMS to date is 228,068 barrels of oil and 88,090,000 cubic feet of gas.
Indigo Minerals of Houston, Tex., has established TMS production in Vernon and Rapides parishes, Kumar said, and is pumping "342 barrels per day plus 154,000 cubit feet of gas per day."
East of the Mississippi River in Louisiana, Devon Energy Corporation of Oklahoma City, Okla., established in East Feliciana in June 2011 the first TMS production in state.
Kumar said drilling is also underway in St. Helena, Tangipahoa, East Feliciana and West Feliciana. For the full story, subscribe to the The Concordia Sentinel's NEW E-Edition! |
