Cathedral ends regular season with win
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Cathedral High cruised to a 30-0 win over Hartfield Academy and now sets its sights on a Class A first-round playoff opponent Pelahatchie.

Brandt Pugh scored two touchdowns for Cathedral, while Thomas Garrity hooked up with Parker Rymer on a 1-yard TD pass and run for another score.

Dale Matheney connected on a 28-yard field goal for the Green Wave.

"The guys did a good job," said Cathedral head coach Ron Rushing. "I was worried because we did not have a good week of practice. We were able to play a lot of people and were able to spread it around a lot."

Cathedral held Harfield to 70 yards in total offense.

Rushing did lose sophomore Pate Shirley to a fractured fibula.

"I hate that for Pate," Rushing said. "He has done a good job for us."

Pelahatchie is 9-2 overall and finished 7-1 in Region 3.

Pelahatchie defeated West Oktibbeha 54-26 Friday.

"They average about 270 across the front line," Rushing said. "They run the ball a lot. We're going to have to put some extra guys in the box to stop them. They are very athletic. They made the playoffs with sophomores and juniors last year. We definitely have our work cut out for us."
