Dayes to captain LSU game
Donnie and Daryl Daye are returning to Tiger Stadium.
The Ferriday natives, who both lettered at LSU, have been selected as honorary captains for the LSU-Ole Miss football game on Nov. 17 at 2:30 p.m.
"That's a dream come true," Daryl said. "It will be great to be back on the field with my dad."
Donnie was a member of the 1958 LSU national championship team. Daryl walked on at LSU and eventually earned a scholarship as a linebacker. He also served as a graduate assistant coach to Bill Arnsparger.
The two were on the field in 2008 when the 1958 team was honored.
Daryl said former LSU linebacker Ricky Chatman is over the L Club and contacted him about he and Donnie being captains.
"I told him we were all for it and he called me back and told me it was a unanimous decision for us," Daryl said. "That meant the world to me."
Daryl said former LSU football and baseball standout Chad Jones is scheduled to be the other captain.
Daryl said the fact it's the Ole Miss game adds even more to the honor.
"Back when we played, Tulane and Ole Miss were our rivals," Daye said. "Now it's everybody."
Daye has led Missouri Southern to a 6-4 record this year in his first year as head coach in Springfield.
It's only the second winning season for Missouri Southern over the past 17 years.
"We're jacked about that," Daye said. "Not many people thought we could do it."
As a matter of fact, Missouri Southern closes out its season Saturday against Pitt State.
A Lion win would give them an outside chance for a Division II bowl game.
"That would be the only reason I would miss the LSU-Ole Miss game," Daryl said. |
