Cathy Hill has won the American Cancer Society Fight Back Community Volunteer Award for her work for the Miss-Lou Relay for Life.

Event and team captains were also recognized at an awards program held in Hattiesburg, Miss.

Through Hill's leadership, survivor attendance and registration has increased at the annual Relay for Life event. Hill works with Dr. Jack Rodriguez in coordinating the reception and also works with teams, churches and her local workplace in getting survivors registered.

She is a long time volunteer with the American Cancer Society and has been involved in the local Relay For Life in some capacity since the event started in 1996.

Event and teams raising $10,000 and more recognized were:

-- Team Excellence Award, The Markets, top team raising $25,575; Delta Bank, $18,969; Team Educators, $17,532; and Wal-Mart, $14,895.

-- Per Capita Event Winners (based on county population and amount raised), The Miss Lou event: State, Mid-South Division and National Winner; State #1 in Top 20; Mid-South Division Top 25; Fifth in the Nation per capita, 30-34k population, $5.73.
