Monterey boys roll
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Monterey's boys scored a season-high 71 points on its way to a 71-34 win over Grace Christian Friday in Monterey.

"We needed that after two straight losses," said Monterey boys coach Eric Richard. "We came out re-focused and took what their defense gave us and guarded on defense."

Kade Passman and Hayden Cassel led Monterey with 14 points each. Trent Burley added 11 points, while Dillon Smith and Yankie Duncan scored eight points each.

"I would rather see that than someone scoring 20 or more points," Richard said. "It means we are moving the basketball around and getting the right spacing."

The Wolves are seeded No. 17 in the Class B power rankings.

The top 32 advance to the playoffs, while the top 16 host a first-round playoff contest.

Monterey' girls fell to Grace Christian 33-28 in overtime Friday in Monterey.

The Lady Wolves led 14-10 after one period, but were held scoreless in the second quarter as the Lady Warriors led 15-14 at halftime.

The contest was tied at 26-26 at the end of regulation.

Kristin Russell led Monterey with 11 points.

The Lady Wolves are ranked No. 16 in the current power rankings.

Monterey plays at Rapides Friday.
