Vidalia football schedule released For the first time in 10 years, Vidalia High will not be opening its regular season against Block High.
Block scheduled a game at defending two-time Class A state champion Ouachita Christian in Monroe.
Vidalia and Block have been scheduled to kick off their seasons against each other since 2003.
The Vikings will open play a week after their annual Vidalia Jamboree at home against Delhi.
Vidalia will travel to Delhi Charter in the second week, followed by its annual parish rivalry with Ferriday, which will be played at Dee Faircloth Stadium in Vidalia.
Following a game at Bolton, Vidalia will host St. Frederick of Monroe before beginning its district schedule against Jena, Marksville, Avoyelles, Caldwell Parish and Buckeye.
"There's a little change from the past couple of years, but we think it will be better for us," said Vidalia coach Gary Paul Parnham. "We still have some competitive games."
Parnham said he is all for a decision by LSHAA principals to split the 2013 postseason into separate "select" and "non-select" brackets.
"That's been a long time coming," Parnham said. "It needed to happen about 30 years ago. We have a certain school zone to draw from and they don't. It's an unfair advantage. If they have a need for a fullback or linebacker, they can go out and get one. It levels the playing field some. I wish they would have done it for all sports, but I think that's coming." |
