Stories from Concordia's past will be featured during the Concordia Parish Chamber of Commerce's 2012 Annual Awards Dinner and Celebration next week.

This year's event will celebrate "The Sights & Sounds of Historical Louisiana," and feature the Saint Joseph Trio.

The program is slated for 6 to 9 p.m. on Feb. 28 at the Bryant O. Hammett Conference and Convention Center.

Awards to be presented include 2012 Concordian of the Year, 2012 Business of the Year, 2012 Business Person of the Year, 2012 Educator of the Year and 2012 Chamber Volunteer of the Year.

Marilyn Campbell will present a reading, "Winter Voices from a Miss Lou Past," the story of how residents in southwest Concordia reacted when the gas plant in Ferriday caught on fire.

Photographer Rhett Powell will present a slide show of the images he has captured through the viewfinder during the past 35 years, focusing on the human story of the parish.

Concordia Sentinel editor Stanley Nelson will describe with words and photos the people who populated two plantations in the days before and during the Civil War.

A silent and live auction is also slated.
