'Shooter' situations have happened before Sgt. Lee Ford with the Concordia Parish Sheriff's Office told administrators and teachers at Concordia Parish Head Start in Clayton that "shooter situations" have happened before in the parish.
The worry, he said, is when one will happen again.
Ford talked about a hostage situation involving a Vidalia High student and teacher in the 1980s and another at the former Northside Elementary School in Natchez years ago.
"This has been going on a long time," said Ford, who relayed statistics stating that there have been 154 active shooter cases in the United States since 1996 and more than 1,400 deaths.
"This is serious," Ford said. "And the only thing that can keep our environment safe is you. There are choices, decisions and consequences. You have people walking up and down this street at all hours of the day."For the full story, subscribe to the The Concordia Sentinel's NEW E-Edition! |
