Lady Vikings compete Vidalia High's softball team dodged the raindrops long enough Friday and Saturday to get in three games at the Neville Tournament.
"The main thing was getting some games in," said Lady Viking head coach Gary Paul Parnham.
Vidalia defeated Bastrop 16-6 Friday in Monroe as Taylor Rodgers allowed only three hits, striking out nine.
The Lady Vikings were led at the plate by Katlyn Bertelsen, who collected three singles.
Cassie Gonzales had two doubles, while Megan Naquin doubled and singled.
Rodgers and Katelin Temple both doubled.
The Lady Vikings defeated Franklin Parish 14-2 early Saturday.
Laura Perilloux allowed five runs in earning the win.
Vidalia scored five runs in the first inning.
Gonzales doubled and singled, while Rodgers had two hits.
Vidalia closed out tournament play with a 7-5 loss to Cedar Creek.
Taylor Rodgers collected her second home run of the season.
"We had a 5-1 lead, but made some errors and had some walks," Parnham said. "But it was good for these girls to be in that type of situation and they battled until the end."
The Lady Vikings are hitting over .500 as a team.
"I thought hitting would be our weakness, but we are hitting it well," Parnham said. "When you can put the ball in play you can make things happen."
Vidalia plays at Block Thursday. |
