Concordia Parish Library and the Bruin-Vidal Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will be celebrating the Bicentennial of Abraham Lincoln on Tuesday, February 3, 2009, at the Vidalia Library at 6 p.m.

Ken Stickney, Managing Editor of the Monroe News Star will be presenting, "Awaiting Mr. Lincoln." Stickney's comments will relate to the Louisiana press coverage and the public reaction to the Abraham Lincoln election of 1860.

Ken Stickney, 55, has been managing editor of The News-Star since 1999, where he coordinates the daily operations in the newsroom and daily editorial page. Prior to working in Monroe, he held reporting and editing positions in Alabama, Mississippi and Atlanta.

He has earned statewide and regional press awards for editorial writing and editing, personal columns, spot news and features, investigative reporting and sports. He has served twice as president of the Associated Press Managing Editors in the Louisiana-Mississippi region.

Stickney earned master's degrees in history at ULM and communication at the University of Alabama. At ULM, his thesis was about the demise of The Independent, a Unionist newspaper published in Catahoula Parish under the guidance of James G. Taliaferro from 1856-61.

He and his wife, Carey Creagan Stickney, who is dean of enrollment services at Louisiana Delta Community College in Monroe, have four children: Laura Owen, a teacher in East Baton Rouge Parish; Creagan, an engineer in Virginia; Erin, a senior at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette; and Tess, a freshman at Louisiana Tech. The Stickneys are parishioners at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Monroe

Come to the Concordia Parish Library in Vidalia to celebrate Abraham Lincoln's 200th Birthday with refreshments following the presentation. This program is free and open to the public.
