Clayton gets grants for sewer, town hall
posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
The Town of Clayton has been awarded two grants -- almost a half million for its sewerage system and $25,000 to upgrade town hall.

A Louisiana Community Development Block Grant totaling $492,940 will be used to upgrade the sewer treatment facility.

"This was real important for us," said Clayton Mayor Rydell Turner. "We're looking for another grant in the future to build a plant, but this will keep us going and help us to upgrade our system because the old system is outdated. This will be a whole lot better for our community."

Turner said Bryant Hammett & Associates is handling the project design.

Additionally, Turner said Clayton has also been approved for a $25,000 Local Government Assistance Program grant to remodel Clayton Town Hall.

"We just signed the contract and sent the paperwork back on that," Turner said. "We're going to remodel town hall inside and out, paint the building, knock down some walls and add a department for the chief of police. This will bring us up to date and be good for our citizens. We have quite a few people who come to our meetings and this will encourage them to keep coming out."
