Vidalia refinances bonds Following a public hearing, the Vidalia Town Council approved a measure Tuesday night to refinance $1.6 million in sales tax bonds saving the city $55,000 annually.
The 18-year sales tax refunding bonds were issued in 1999 by Concordia Bank and Delta Bank and included a 10-year refinancing option.
The move will lower the interest rate from 5.30 percent to 3.75 percent producing the savings.
In other business, the board proclaimed November 1st as "Change Your Clock/Change Your Battery" day in the city at the request of Fire Chief Jack Langston. Langston said the reminder to change smoke alarm batteries could save lives.
The Vidalia Fire Department was also presented a plaque and two antique fire extinguishers from the city and the police department for "outstanding service."
It was also announced that installation of the new amphitheater cover was complete just in time for riverfront activities Friday night. The original cover was destroyed by Hurricane Gustav.

-Occupational/Sign: Vidalia Deer Processing, 412 Carter St., Greg Ensminger.
