Ferriday sloshes past Sterlington by Joey Martin - posted Thursday, November 5th, 2009 @ 8:03 am  E-mail Story |  Print Story  Ferriday High kept its hopes for a share of the District 2-2A title alive with a 14-0 win over Sterlington in Monroe Friday night. "It was nasty," said Ferriday coach Freddie Harrison of the field conditions that deteriorated in a steady rain. Ferriday improved to 7-2 overall and 3-1 in District 2-2A. "We did what we had to do," Harrison said. "It wasn't the best game we played. Our defense was outstanding, but our offense continues to struggle. We have too many self-inflicted wounds." Sterlington quarterback Logan Dopson, one of the top quarterbacks in northeast Louisiana, was held to 150 yards passing by the Trojan defense. He was picked off three times. "Our defense does everything to keep us in the game and our offense does everything it can to keep us out of it," Harrison said. Ferriday's running game was led by senior Bobby Madison, who had 34 carries for 110 yards and a touchdown. Trojan senior quarterback Rodney Lawson completed 7 of 15 passes for 95 yards with one interception. The loss was the sixth straight for Sterlington. The Panthers, who are 0-4 in district play, close out their regular season at Jonesboro-Hodge Friday. "I give Sterlington a lot of credit," Harrison said. "They could have folded their tents, but they gave everything they had. It definitely wasn't an easy win." Sterlington coach Mike Collins said he was pleased with his defensive play. "The guys have been playing hard every week," Collins said. "We're rated No. 33 in the power ratings, so we feel we still have a chance for the playoffs. Ferriday is very talented and Freddie and his coaches do a great job with that team. Those are some classy young men and it's always a hard-fought game when we play them."
