"That's the way it's been for the last two years, so this year is no surprise," said Farmerville coach Joe Spatafora. Farmerville returns several starters from last year's team which lost to Calvary Baptist 36-33 in overtime in the Class 2A quarterfinals. Farmerville's only loss this season was a 28-26 setback to Rayville. "This is one of our better teams," Spatafora said. "We're a little more athletic across the board." Spatafora said Ferriday reminds him a lot of his team. "They are big, fast, strong and physical," he said. "They are kind of a mirror of us." Spatafora said it will be important for his team to have a good start in the contest. "We need to come out and be very physical and aggressive," he said. "We need to get the tempo going our way and keep it throughout the game." Ferriday High head coach Freddie Harrison said his offense will have to play one of its best games of the season. "Farmerville is a real physical football team," he said. "We've been finding ways to make mistakes on offense, whether it's a fumble, interception, receiving running wrong route or not blocking or a penalty. On defense, 10 people can mess up, but one person can make a play. You have to have all 11 playing well on offense." Harrison said his defense has been a key to the Trojans' success. "Farmerville is physical and they going to run it right at us, no matter if we know where they are going or not," Harrison said. "Turnovers is going to be a key. In our two losses, we had three turnovers against Natchez and six against Lake Providence. The defense played well enough to win both games."
