Irvin named to river commission

A Vidalia man has been appointed by Gov. Bobby Jindal to the Mississippi River Parkway Commission of Louisiana.

H.L. Irvin of Ferriday is the Vidalia conference center director for the City of Vidalia. Irvin will serve as a resident of a parish bordering the Mississippi River, as required by statute.

The Mississippi River Parkway Commission of Louisiana is an affiliate of the National Mississippi River Parkway Planning Commission and serves to advise and assist the national commission in promoting and developing the Great River Road.

According to the statute, the commission is comprised of 10 gubernatorial appointments. Two members must be representatives of the Department of Transportation and Development selected from nominations submitted by the secretary of the Department of Transportation and Development. The eight remaining commissioners are selected from residents of the 18 parishes bordering the Mississippi River.

Also appointed was Melanie Bueche, of Lakeland, who is the president of the Pointe Coupee Parish Police Jury. Bueche will serve as a resident of a parish bordering the Mississippi River, as required by statute.
