Monterey High swept a pair of games with Georgetown Tuesday in Monterey as the Lady Wolves defeated the Lady Bulldogs 52-38, while Monterey's boys cruised to a 49-34 victory.

In the girls contest, Monterey came out strong on both ends of the floor, leading Georgetown 14-6 after one period of play.

Georgetown cut that lead to 24-20 at halftime.

The Lady Wolves increased their lead to seven points after three quarters and outscored the Lady Bulldogs 18-11 in the final period.

Rachel Pecanty led the Lady Wolves with 16 points, while Brooke Baker chipped in 11.

Ellen Bairnsfather and Kendall Lipsey scored eight points each.

Monterey's boys jumped out to an 11-7 lead over Georgetown in the opening period and increased that lead to 26-15 at halftime.

The Wolves came out playing stronger defense in the third period, outscoring the Bulldogs 12-4.

Jacob Evans led the Wolves with 27 points, while Cade Crum added 11 points.

"We've had somebody different step up at different times and we have to have that to be successful," said Monterey coach Eric Richard.

Monterey will compete in the Harrisonburg Tournament beginning Thursday as the girls play Jena, while the Monterey boys face Buckeye.
