Body of Monterey man found
posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
The body of a Monterey man missing since Friday, Nov. 6, was found Saturday afternoon, December 5, within his vehicle located just off Highway 129 south of Stacy in Concordia Parish.

According to Concordia Parish Sheriff's Office Investigator Phillip Webber, it appears that Robert L. Wells, 61, may have suffered a medical problem before running his vehicle off of the highway, through a field and into the tree-line area.

A passing motorist spotted Wells' 1997 black Chevrolet Blazer about 1:30 p.m. and notified the Concordia Parish Sheriff's Office. Webber said snow remaining from the previous night made the vehicle visible from the roadway.

Wells' brother, Marty Wells, and his daughter, Shannon Wells, said there was no foul play in Robert Wells' death.

"We went to the scene and we are satisfied that there was no foul play," said Marty Wells. "He had had three strokes and it looked like he had left the highway without braking."

Shannon Wells said there will be no autopsy.
