Aux Arc Ouachita journey starts Sunday This marks the 5th year on the Ouachita River for keelboat Aux Arc (pronounced Ozark). The adventure this year leads to the Black River.
The Aux Arc is a 38-ft. replica of the type of boat that traveled the Ouachita and other rivers in the 18th and 19th centuries.
The schedule is:
Saturday, December 26th: Travel to the Duty Ferry and spend the night at or near Jim Bowie's Relay Station
Sunday, December 27th: Launch the keelboat at the ferry landing (8 a.m.) and travel to Harrisonburg (4 p.m.) and spend the night at the Corps of Engineers Park on the east side of the river.
Monday, December 28th: Leave at 8 a.m. Travel to the Black River and Jonesville. Plan to arrive at 4 p.m. and spend the next two nights at Four Rivers Park.
Tuesday, December 29th: Spend the entire day at Jonesville, Four Rivers Park, to meet with the public and discuss & demonstrate life as it was in early 1800's.
Wednesday, December 30th: Leave at 8 AM and travel to Jonesville Lock & Dam and spend the night at the Corps of Engineers Park on the west side of the river
Thursday, December 31st: Travel to the Tensas-Cocodrie pumping station and boat ramp.
The crew are members of the Early Arkansaw Reenactors Association (EARA).
