Ferriday hosts Block Don't expect the unexpected when Ferriday meets Block at Melz Field in Ferriday Friday at 7 p.m.
First-year Ferriday head coach Cleothis Cummings and Block head coach Benny Vault, who both played football at their school, certainly are not.
"It's the same ol' Block," Cummings said. "They are not doing anything different,. They will line up in the double wing and come right at you. They want to keep your offense off the field."
"Ferriday is Ferriday," said Block coach Benny Vault Jr. "They have good size and speed. They are going to be physical."
Block defeated Vidalia 24-6 in its opener, while Ferriday lost to Natchez 33-6. Ferriday starting quarterback Shannon Morales will miss Friday's game with a dislocated shoulder. Freshman Ronald Adams will start against Block.
"It looked like the freshmen threw the ball well against Natchez and ran the ball well," Vault said. "Hopefully we can get some pressure on him like Natchez did."
Cummings said Ferriday must keep Block's offense from chewing up yardage and the clock.
"We've got to limit their offensive touches," Cummings said. "We're not going to do anything fancy, we just need to show a lot of improvement from last week to this week."
Vault and Cummings are both grateful for a normal week after dealing with Hurricane Isaac last week.
"We're glad to get back in a normal routine," Cummings said.
Ferriday defeated Block 22-16 last season. |
