Ferriday hosts Vidalia For the first time ever, Vidalia and Ferriday High will enter their parish rivalry contest both with 0-2 records.
"Both teams will be pumped up," said Vidalia coach Gary Paul Parnham. 'It's going to be a good game for the fans. It will be two young teams going at it."
The Trojans lead the series 27-15-1.
Ferriday dropped its opener to Natchez High before losing to Block, while Vidalia lost to Block and Delhi Charter.
Ferriday won 7-of-10 times in the 1990s and has won eight of the last 12.
Vidalia last won in Ferriday in 2008, defeating the Trojans, 24-20.
Both teams may be starting freshmen quarterbacks as Vidalia senior Michael Whitley sprained his knee last Friday, while Shannon Morales dislocated his shoulder against Natchez on September 1.
Freshman Jonterris Townsend is expected to start for Vidalia, while Ronald Davis could be seeing his second straight start Friday. Morales is having his shoulder looked at again Friday.
Ferriday will be without senior lineman Lee Quinn, who injured his leg against Block, and Dontrell Domino, who suffered a knee injury against the Bears.
"Neither one of us has a lot of seniors," Parnham said. "We're just trying to get better each week and we feel like we have improved a lot from last year."
Ferriday coach Cleothis Cummings said the Trojans will be ready to play.
"Vidalia has a good team and they have some athletes," Cummings said. "We're still working to get better. No one is pushing the panic button. The kids are still motivated to get better. We're not going to lose focus." |
