Cathedral drops region game Cathedral fell to 1-1 in Regional 4 District 7A play as the Green Wave fell to Stringer 35-14 Friday in Stringer.
The Green Wave also lost starting tailback Khalil Brice with a torn meniscus, and top receiver Ishmael Blackmon, who popped his shoulder out.
Stringer outscored Cathedral 22-7 in the second half.
"We still had our chances," said Cathedral coach Ron Rushing. "We just didn't make some plays when we had to. But the effort was there."
Thomas Garrity hooked up with Kyle Bradley on a 10-yard scoring pass and Chisum Mardis scored on a 1-yard run while Dale Matheny added two PAT kicks for the Green Wave.
Cathedral hosts Salem Friday in another regional contest. The Green Wave beat the Wildcats 42-24 last year.
"They have a 6-foot-7, 270-pound defensive end/offensive tackle who committed to Southern Miss," Rushing said.
Jonathan Wilson announced he would sign with the Golden Eagles in February.
Wilson, rated a two-star prospect by Scout.com, also had scholarship offers from Mississippi State and Louisiana-Lafayette. The 6-foot-6, 250-pounder had 69 tackles and four sacks for the Class 1A Wildcats in 2011.
"They have got some size," Rushing said. "They are not real flashy, they just run right at you. They run the wishbone offense and have three good running backs."
Rushing said Brice, Blackmon and quarterback Thomas Garrity are all questionable for Friday.
"We are just going to have to have some other people step up," Rushing said. |
