Ferriday hosts Wilkinson
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Ferriday High's football team hosts a Wilkinson County High football team that Wildcat head coach Johnny Brown agrees is the best in several years.

The Wildcats have posted wins over Natchez High, Amite County, South Pike and Baker.

"We're just hoping we can keep it going," Brown said. "We're looking forward to the matchup. We watched Ferriday against Natchez and they are small, but very scrappy. They won't lay down. They get after you."

Wilkinson County is led by quarterback Devin Voorhies, who committed to LSU before the season as a wide receiver/defensive back.

"We're not one-dimensional," Brown said.

To add to it, Ferriday assistant coach Elbert "Mo" Lyles is a former head coach at Wilkinson County.

"I'm sure Coach Lyles knows some of our tendencies, but we do a lot of different things," Brown said.

Ferriday coach Cleothis Cummings said Wilkinson County has size and speed and a number of athletes.

"We have to try and limit what they do," Cummings said. "We need to keep their offense off the field."

Cummings said quarterback Shannon Morales, who dislocated his shoulder in the opener against Natchez High, and Dontrell Domino, who injured his knee against Block two weeks ago, are both doubtful.
