Sheriff announces Citizen Academy posted Wednesday, September 26th, 2012 @ 1:26 pm  E-mail Story |  Print Story  Sheriff Kenneth Hedrick said his office will hold an academy this fall open to citizens interested in learning about the operations of the sheriff's office. The 2012 Concordia Citizen's Academy -- a seven-week course -- will held Oct. 9 through Nov. 20 and is open to residents of the parish who are 18 or older. "This is the people's sheriff's office and we are open to everyone," Hedrick said. "I want the people to understand what we do and how we do it." Capt. Frankie Carroll will be director of the academy. Hedrick said the fall academy will be limited to a class of 50, but the program will be ongoing. Applications are available at the sheriff's office in Vidalia. Applicants will be subject to a cursory background check because attendees will be introduced to the workings of CPSO, Hedrick said. "This is a means to develop cooperation and understanding between the sheriff's office and the people," Hedrick said. Those who complete the course will recognized at a graduation ceremony. Hedrick said classes will be at the Concordia Parish Community Center at Ferriday. Classes begin Oct. 9 and continue each consecutive Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. until completed.
