Green Wave bounce back
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Nothing like a shutout of arch-rival St. Aloysius to cure the blues.

Cathedral High rebounded from two straight losses to defeat the Flashes 21-0 in Vicksburg Friday.

"Our defense dominated," said Cathedral coach Ron Rushing. "They only got 74 yards on us. We were able to play a field position game."

It was the second straight shutout against St. Al, as Cathedral blanked the Flashes 28-0 last year.

Cathedral scored touchdowns in the first, second and final quarters.

Matthew Rymer scored on a 29-yard run, Josh Wilkerson caught a 32-yard pass from Tyler Stockstill and Kyle Bradley scored on a 21-yard run.

Dale Matheney added the point-after kicks.

Stockstill was making his second straight start for Thomas Garrity, who dressed out but did not play because of an injury.

"Tyler did a good job managing the game," Rushing said.

Cathedral visits Mt. Olive Friday.

"They only dress out 24 players, but they have some athletes and three 300-pound linemen," Rushing said.

The Green Wave defeated the Piratees 35-7 last year.
