Ferriday visits J-H by Joey Martin - posted Wednesday, October 3rd, 2012 @ 2:03 pm  E-mail Story |  Print Story  After a rugged non-district schedule, Ferriday High begins District 2-2A play as the Trojans visit Jonesboro-Hodge Friday. The Trojans defeated the Tigers 26-6 in Ferriday last year. Both teams are 1-4 on the season. J-H lost to Avoyelles 82-56, while falling to Caldwell 2-0 Friday. The Tigers beat Grambling 56-28. "I started out as a defensive coach and stayed that way for a number of years, so I didn't like that at all," said Jonesboro-Hodge coach Todd Scott. Avoyelles attempts an onsides kick each time and never punts. "We didn't stop them enough," Scott said. "We had our good-hands people on the kickoffs, so we started out in good field position after they scored." Jonesboro-Hodge fell to Caldwell 2-0 last week. "That turnaround shows what we can do when we get the right matchup," Scott said. "They are kind of having the same type of year we are," said Ferriday coach Cleothis Cummings. "They have a lot of good-looking players. They have been like us in that they have not been able to finish some games. They run the spread offense and have some talented athletes. We are going to have to do our best to contain them." Scott has also been stressing to his team that this is a new season. "We need to start out with a win," Scott said. "We need to get something good going early. We got in a hole against Avoyelles and couldn't dig our way out of it." Scott said Ferriday is very athletic. "They have a lot of speed and are tough to tackle in space," he said. "We just have to try and continue getting better."
