District 2 Justice of the Peace Frank Duson asked jurors at the Monday meeting to increase their monthly pay and to up their annual convention expenses from $300 to $500.
Justices of the peace and constables are presently paid $75 per month from the Jury and $100 monthly from the state.
Duson said it was difficult for justices and constables in less "lucrative" districts to make ends meet.
"My people normally call me for advice," Duson said.
Jury President Melvin Ferrington said jurors were presently working on the 2012 fiscal year budget.
"Our budget just won't allow any increases," Ferrington said. "Everything is short right now."
In other action, Jury grant writer Donna Remides updated jurors on her work to obtain a $3.6 million grant from the Louisiana Department of Transportation & Development. The grant is being sought for the Brushy Bayou project, which is designed to improve parish drainage. For the full story, subscribe to the The Concordia Sentinel's NEW E-Edition! |
