School Board appointing Student Advisory Board Board appointing Student Advisory Board
The Concordia Parish School Board is forming a Student Advisory Board to discuss bullying and ways to improve parish schools. The first meeting is slated for Oct. 30. Supt. Dr. Paul Nelson announced the advisory board at last week's School Board meeting. "We've been talking about schools and school improvement and we thought, 'Why not ask the kids about this?'" Nelson said. "Bullying is a hot topic right now and there are other things we need to talk about." He said the student board will be made up two students from each school in grades 7 through 12. The board will meet every six to nine weeks. Nelson said principals have recommended student members chosen by the staff of the schools and that parents are being notified by mail that their child has been nominated. "We'll hold the first meeting at the School Board's central office on Oct. 30," he said. "Transportation will be provided. We'll hold future meetings at the various schools. Many of the kids have not been to a school other than their own." Nelson said students will be asked "what they like or don't like about their schools, how to improve their schools and how to make it more interesting. We thought the students needed a voice."For the full story, subscribe to the The Concordia Sentinel's NEW E-Edition! |
