Richard seeking another milestone
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Monterey head coach Eric Richard reached a milestone last season when he won his 200th basketball game.

Now he would like another milestone - making it past the first round of the playoffs

"What this team wants is a home playoff game and a playoff win," Richard said. "That why we have to make sure every game is important. With the power ratings, a game against Sicily Island is just as important as a district game against Rapides. That's an adjustment coaches have had to make, but it's important we come ready to play every game."

Seniors on the Monterey 2012-13 team are Cole Fancher, Yankie Duncan and Josh Usie.

Juniors are Dillon Smith, Trent Burley, Trey Book and Hayden Cassels.

Sophomores are Kade Passman, Gary Jackson, Jake Cooper, Riley Dunn, Dalton Book and Tommy Poole.

Freshmen are Jake Barlow, Taylor McKay and Conner Brown.

Monterey finished 12-14 overall and 3-5 in District 4B, falling to Fairview in the first round of the playoffs. Fairview lost to state champion Zwolle in the Class B semifinals.

"We only lost two kids and have the nucleus of our team back," Richard said. "I feel as good about this team as any team I have had here. This team has better quickness and strength. I feel like we can compete with any team we play."
