by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Vidalia High fell to Marksville 21-12 Friday in Marksville in a District 3-3A contest.

"We had a couple of miscues that cost us," said Vidalia head coach Gary Paul Parnham. "But we were still in it until the end. We just have to get over that hump."

The Vikings trailed 7-6 at halftime.

After a scoreless first quarter, Marksville got on the board early in the second period as Devin Batiste went 64 yards for the score.

Vidalia anwered on its next possession as Stewart Mallory passed 15 yards to Zalon Parker for the score. The conversion failed.

Vidalia moved the ball to the Marksville 6-yard line early in the second half, but missed on a fourth down pass.

"We had a miscue there that cost us," Parnham said.

Marksville scored a touchdown in the third and fourth quarters as Batiste added two 2-yard TD runs. Batiste finished with 25 carries for 207 yards.

Vidalia's final touchdown came on a 1-yard run by Jonterris Townsend.

Vidalia's Torrey Smith finished four unassisted tackles and four sacks.

Vidalia plays at Avoyelles Friday before finishing the season with two home games.
