Lady Vikings seek improvement
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Vidalia High girls basketball coach Fred Marsalis knew he would have to take baby steps to bring the Lady Viking basketball team back to be competitive.

Vidalia was 2-20 last year, but battled all season long, losing several close games.

"We were in a lot of games last year, but those teams who are used to winning were able to hold us off," Marsalis said. "We're getting better. We still have a number of freshmen and sophomores and this team is still learning."

The Lady Vikings attended camps in Eunice and at Cathedral.

"We scrimmaged Tensas Parish and Coach (Steve) McClatchy has been very gracious in working with us," Marsalis said. "We had a good offseason and we'll show up for every game. It just depends on how ready our girls are to play."

Seniors for the Lady Vikings are Miranda Gonzales, Nyisha Randall and Jasmine Thompson.

Juniors are Shemel Bell, Frankysha Duson, Taylor Tennessee, Alandra Holt and Shemell Bell.

Sophomores are Megan Kammerdeiner, Tiarra Bell, Andrea Foster and Jewel Thompson.

Freshmen are Ashley Martin, Brianna Tolliver and Shemel Green.
