Cathedral continuing 'playoffs'
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
The way Cathedral High head coach Ron Rushing looks at it, the Green Wave are now 2-0 in the playoffs.

Cathedral followed up a must-win over Dexter with a 19-14 win over Hinds AHS Friday in Natchez.

"We're treating each week as a playoff game now," Rushing said. "Our defense played real well Friday."

Thomas Garrity scored in second quarter on a quarterback keeper to tie the game at 7-7 after Dale Matheny's point-after kick.

Christian Jenkins cut the lead to 14-13 onk a 2-yard run.

A fumble recovery by Matheny led to Garrity going in from three yards out with 1:49 remaining in the first half with the eventual winning score.

Rushing said he doesn't see his team looking past Harfield Academy (formerly University Christian), which is 1-8, on Friday.

"They have moved the ball on just about everybody they have played," Rushing said. "They are well-coached and their seven or eight seniors are going to be wanting to go out with a win. Our guys know how serious this game is."
