by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
K.G. Watkins is back on the Ferriday HIgh boys basketball sideline.

Watkins, who served as head boys basketball coach in 2007-08 and has also served as assistant football and assistant girls basketball coach, is back as head boys basketball coach at Ferriday.

"I walked in the gym and it was like I never left," Watkins said. 'I feel real comfortable being back

James Davis, who is the assistant principal at Ferriday High, took over as head boys basketball coach for Glenn Henderson in the middle of the 2009 season. Davis is now principal at Feriday High.

Watkins, who has spent the past five years as head boys basketball coach at Block High, guided the Trojans to the state championship game in Class 2A.

The Trojans fell to St. Thomas Aquinas in the finals, after eliminating Lakeside in the semifinals at the Top 28 Tournament in Lafayette.

Watkins led Ferriday to a 26-8 season in 2007-08, going unbeaten in District 2-2A and an impressive 7-1 as a visiting team.

He sees this year's squad with the potential to be just as good.

"I'm trying to hold back because my expectations are so high," Watkins said. 'We will have a very competitive squad. I see a lot of potential. I'm really excited and have a good feeling about this season."

Seniors for Watkins are Brandon Scott, Quavion Eliis, Dartavious Bethley, Mario Neal, Lee Quinn and Ronnie Frazier.

Will Scott is the lone junior.

Sophomores are De'jon Mitchell, Steve Wilson, Trey Hall, Shannon Morales, Je'vion Hardaway Adrian Wiggins, and Marlon Jackson.

"We are very deep, which I am not used to," Watkins said.

"We're excited about starting the season to see just how well we perform on the court."
