Trinity wins playoff game Trinity Episcopal continued its winning ways in postseason, defeating Silliman 27-12 in a first round MAIS Class A contest Friday in Natchez.
"We played our best game of the year when we beat them during the regular season and once again played one of our better games," said Trinity coach Josh Loy. "I don't necessarily think we matched up well with them. but we were able to contain their best offensive player. Our defense did an outstanding job and we were able to run the ball against them. We controlled the line of scrimmage and that makes play-calling a lot easier when you canned do that."
Tanner Cage led the way with 220 yards rushing and also passed to Peyton Young on a 12-yard play for another score.
Trinity faces defending state champion Simpson in the second round at Mendenhall.
"They are very good and we are going to have to play our best game if we want to keep playing," Loy said. "The good thing is we haven't played our best game yet. We're still making mistakes. We are one of four teams remaining in the South and we're excited about playing for a right to play for South State." |
