Vidalia ends year with loss to Buckeye
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Vidalia High scored the first touchdown of the game, but Buckeye answered with several scores on its way to a 35-7 wino over the Vikings Friday in the final game of the season for Vidalia.

The Vikings' only score came on their first possession as Jonterris Townsend crossed the goal into paydirt and Stewart Copeland passed to Cole Cangemi on the conversion.

The Vikings finish at 1-9.

"The kids played hard, but they wore us down in the second half," said Vidalia coach Gary Paul Parnham. "We had the opportunity to score a couple of more touchdowns, but didn't take advantage. We drove down to their goal line and it looked like we scored, and if not it would have been on the half-yard line and a first down. But they called it fourth down and we were unable to convert."

Vidalia scored first as Dantell Saul. Stewart Mallory passed to Cole Cangemi on the conversion.

Buckeye has the top seed from District 3-3A teams, as the No. 7 Panthers host Iowa.

No. 11 Caldwell hosts East Feliciana.

No. 23 Avoyelles visits North Vermillion.

No. 28 Marksville is at Livonia.

"We just need to get back and work hard over the offseason," Parnham said. "We had a lot of young guys play a lot of minutes and that will help us out next season."

The Louisiana High School Athletic Association is currently working on its reclassification for the next two years.

Vidalia, with an enrollment of 469, will remain in Class 3A.

One new school that may move into Class 3A will be Ville Platte, which is at 440. Ville Platte was competing in 2A.

"They (LHSAA) may want to put them in the same district with Avoyelles and Marksville, which could ultimately push us up into a north Louisiana district," Parnham said. "It will be interesting to see how this works out."

Vidalia is currently in District 3-3A with Avoyelles, Marksville, Jena, Buckeye and Caldwell Parish.
