Openings possible at magnet school
posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Supt. Dr. Paul Nelson says the Concordia Parish Magnet School for Math, Science and Technology at Ridgecrest may have openings in January.

"We may have some students that will be getting out of the school," he said. "The reasons vary from the normal things of a student moving or a student unable to meet the expectations of behavior, grades or attendance."

Overall, Nelson said he was pleased with operations at the school during its first year.

Nelson also said that he will be presenting a package to the School Board at its next meeting concerning more technology for other schools in the district.

"We're really excited about this," he said.

At last week's School Board meeting, Nelson asked that board members pray for teachers who are discouraged over "the activities in Baton Rouge during the past several months."

Nelson said school systems statewide have been dealing with changes in teacher evaluation and assessment, as well as curriculum revisions.

"There's seems to be a lot of negative things being said in Baton Rouge about our teachers," he said. "They need our encouragement and our prayers."
