Lambert new Ferriday postmaster
posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Toni Lambert was walking in her dad's footsteps a long time ago.

Lambert, the new Ferriday postmaster, is the daughter of long-time Vidalia postmaster Jack Milligan.

"I remember when my dad was a mail carrier," said Lambert, who graduated from Vidalia High in 1980. "It was before I started school. He walked our route and when he got to our house I would walk with him some. When I got tired he would put me in the mail carrier sack and bring me back home."

Lambert is back home again.

Lambert, who officially started at Ferriday on Oct. 6, began her postal career in 1987 as a clerk in Clayton. She was promoted to postmaster at Sondheimer in 1996 before moving on as postmaster for Epps, Pioneer and Oak Ridge.

Lambert served as Officer in Charge for the post offices in Choudrant, Rayville, Columbia, Jonesboro, Simsboro and Bastrop.

"I'm glad to be back home," Lambert said. "I can watch McKenzie (niece McKenzie Milligan) and her sporting events and spend some time with Dad."

Lambert worked for the telephone company and Concordia Parish School Board before pursuing a postal job.

"I was working in the School Board mailroom sorting the mail out and I realized I was pretty good at it," Lambert said.
