Hospital board seeks pay raise The Concordia Parish Police Jury approved a request Tuesday night that Riverland Medical Center board members be paid a maximum of $100 per month rather than $40 per diem, but wants to know if it's legal.
The Jury requested that Rep. Andy Anders look into whether the request requires legislative action.
Jury President Melvin Ferrington said board members "say they are meeting sometimes four times per month. They're asking for a flat rate rather than $40 per diem."
Juror Jimmy Jernigan said he was upset a few months ago when the board attempted to give itself a raise by requesting legislative action without notifying the Jury.
"They were trying to go over our heads," Jernigan said.
Juror Joe Parker agreed, noting that he felt the hospital board was acting "on the slick."
Juror Randy Temple said he wasn't opposed to the pay request but felt it may require legislative action. For the full story, subscribe to the The Concordia Sentinel's NEW E-Edition! |
