Ferriday views property issues posted Wednesday, November 14th, 2012 @ 12:50 pm  E-mail Story |  Print Story  Property was the order of business at the Town of Ferriday board meeting Tuesday. The town council voted to send a letter to Ferriday Oil and Seed to vacate its current building on Highway 15, and discussed selling unused town-owned property owned by the town, and cleaning up the town. Meanwhile, Ferriday Mayor Gene Allen advised the board that Town Attorney Myisha Davis is revising a contract with Neimaj Footwear and Apparel and will have it completed Friday. Currently, there is a an agreement between the town and Neimaj for a five-year lease on the former Kelly's Kids building. The town has a $125,000 grant from Delta Regional Authority to help renovate the building. Allen stressed the contract has not been signed. "There are some things that needed to be tweaked in the contract to protect the city," Allen said. As for Ferriday Oil and Seed, Allen said that business does not have any employees and only exists now as a storage building. "The town spent $1 million on that building and more on the gate," Allen said. "They have not been doing anything for five years. We will have our lawyer send them a letter." Allen also advised the board to look at property around town that is not being used that could be sold by auction. "There's 35 acres on Serio that we do not use but some people use for hunting," Allen said. "We can have a list here and people can bid on them."
