Juveniles sentenced for vandalism
posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Ridgecrest Mayor Dwayne Sikes said three juveniles, two of whom are his grandchildren, served eight hours of community service on Saturday after being sentenced for shooting out a car window with a BB gun.

"This kind of behavior will not be tolerated in Ridgecrest," Sikes said.

The mayor said the juveniles each served eight hours of community service by picking up trash in town. He said they filled 15 large garbage bags with trash.

Sikes said he is considering increasing the fine for littering to the maximum allowed by the state.

The mayor said he wanted to make a point that although two of the juveniles sentenced were his grandchildren that "no matter who it is, there will be consequences when vandalism occurs in our town."

He said he hopes it will teach to lesson that "to all those out there that the Town of Ridgecrest will not tolerate vandalism or littering in our community."
