Drainage tax gets support Local governing bodies and two civic groups have endorsed the parishwide drainage tax which will be on the Dec. 8 ballot.
Voters will consider whether to support the one-mill property tax to pay for the costs of maintenance, operation and upkeep of the proposed Black River Lake and Brushy Bayou Flood Control structures.
If approved, the tax will be levied in perpetuity and will yield approximately $132,000 annually.
Going on record with endorsements or resolutions of support of the millage are:
Concordia Parish Drainage Committee, Black River Lake Recreation & Water Conservation District, Concordia Parish Police Jury, Lake St. John Recreation Water Conservation District, Concordia Parish Economic & Industrial Development District, Ridgecrest Town Council, Concordia Parish Chamber of Commerce, Vidalia Town Council, Fifth District Levee District, Tensas/Concordia Soil & Water Conservation District and Ferriday Rotary Club.
"This is something we've been working on for a long time," Police Jury President Melvin Ferrington said. "We've held several public meetings to discuss drainage during the past months and came up with a plan. The voters will decide what happens next."For the full story, subscribe to the The Concordia Sentinel's NEW E-Edition! |
