Judges recuse themselves in Conner case
posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Both judges in the Seventh Judicial District have recused themselves from hearing a case against a local pastor and NAACP official that resulted in the firing of two Vidalia police officers.

Justin Conner was arrested July 22 in Vidalia following a traffic accident. His arraignment in the case, scheduled for Nov. 14, has been continued until Nov. 28.

Both Judge Kathy Johnson of Division A and Judge Leo Boothe of Division B have recused themselves from hearing the matter, each citing "prior ex parte communication about the facts of this case..."

The Louisiana Supreme Court will appoint a judge to hear the case.

In September, four bills of information charging Conner with DWI, careless operation, speeding and no seat belt were filed by District Attorney Brad Burget.

The District Attorney's office launched an investigation into the accident at the request of the Vidalia Police Department, according to Burget.
