CPSO to issue tickets to left lane slowpokes
posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Concordia Parish Sheriff Kenneth Hedrick said his office will begin cracking down on slow drivers traveling in the left-hand lane.

Hedrick said he has asked parish deputies to issue citations to drivers who are not following Louisiana laws regarding left-hand lane driving.

The sheriff cited Louisiana Revised Statute 32:71B that specifies lawful use of the left-hand lane on multilane highways. Vehicles should be traveling in the left-hand lane only when preparing for a left turn, or overtaking or passing another vehicle traveling in the same direction.

Hedrick said the statute specifies that "Upon all multilane highways, no vehicle traveling in the left-hand lane shall be driven at a speed slower than any vehicle traveling to its right on the same roadway."

People driving on Louisiana highways should be aware of other traffic on the roadway and stay in the right lane when not turning or passing.
