Fire protection fee on Monterey ballot

Monterey voters will decide on Dec. 8 whether they want to implement an annual $50 parcel fee over a 10-year period for fire protection.

The fee will generate an estimated $75,000 a year, according to Monterey Fire Protection District Fire Chief Jim Graves.

Collections will be used to support a number of fire protection programs and services, including hiring a full-time person who will be trained as a fireman, law enforcement officer and emergency medical specialist, Graves said.
