Tensas sweeps Vidalia by Joey Martin - posted Wednesday, November 21st, 2012 @ 10:08 am  E-mail Story |  Print Story  When Isiah Thompson of Vidalia nailed a 3-pointer to start the Vikings' season-opening basketball game against Tensas Parish Monday at Vidalia, it appeared the Vikings would be off and running. But Tensas Parish took control of the tempo from that point, outscoring the Vikings 14-8 the rest of the period and 30-18 in the second quarter for a 44-29 advantage. Vidalia outscored Tensas 23-18 in the third period, but Tensas won thefinal period 22-15 to post a n 84-67 win. "I thought when Isiah hit the 3-pointer that was our jump-start, but we couldn't hit any more," said Vidalia coach Robert Sanders. "Hopefully we can bounce back and hopefully we got that out of our system." Julius Wilson led Vidalia with 18 points, while Isiah Thompson added 14 and Dee Whitley and Deion Brown 10 each. Tensas was led by Andre Watkins with 20. Tensas Parish's girls, who lost in the Class A state championship game last year, defeated Vidalia 65-32. "We're still learning," said Tensas coach Steve McClatchy. "We're not as deep as we have been and I'm trying to find some players who can step in and contribute. We played in the Monroe Tournament and Concordia Jamboree, so the good thing is we've gotten a chance to get on the floor and get some game time." Helena Hill led the Lady Panthers with 14 points. Shermel Bell paced Vidalia with 10 points, while Fran Duson added eight. Vidalia visits Franklin Parish Tuesday. Vidalia's boys defeated Ferriday 38-27 in the Concordia Parish Jamboree Saturday in Ferriday. Isiah Thompson led Vidalia with 18 points, while Julius Wilson added 12. Will Scott paced Ferriday with eight. Vidalia's girls defeated Ferriday 24-17. Fran Duson netted eight points for Vidalia. Jada Griggs scored nine to lead Ferriday. Tensas' girls defeated Vidalia 34-11 and FErriday 36-35. Vidalia boys defeated Tensas 27-20, while Ferriday's boys were 29-27 winners over Tensas. Ferriday hosted Tensas Tuesday night, while Vidalia traveled to Jefferson County. Early deadlines prevented the Sentinel from having those results. They will be in next week's paper.
