Town following recommendations Ferriday Mayor Gene Allen said the town is following recommendations made by the Louisiana Legislative Auditor's Advisory Committee after an assessment was made of business operations, including the management of the water system.
Allen said he requested that the advisory staff of the state auditor visit the town to "advise us on what was done during the previous administration and what we needed to do. We're working through their recommendations."
In a letter to the mayor dated Nov. 28, Legislative Auditor Daryl G. Purpera addressed several issues involving the town's water system and made recommendations on how the town should work with JCP Management, the company hired to manage the system.
Purpera recommended that the mayor:
-- Get legal advice about the town's utility system privatization contract with JCP and make sure town management and staff are familiar with both the town's and JCP's responsibilities and obligations under the contract.
-- Meet with JCP to ensure "there is a clear understanding between both parties of their roles under the contract."
-- Review JCP invoices and costs with aldermen on a monthly basis. Purpera advised "that should the costs outweigh the benefits to the Town, management of the Town has a fiduciary responsibly to explore all available options to remedy."
-- Ensure that town staff is working with JCP to effectively operate the utility system.
-- Set up monitoring procedures to ensure that JCP is in compliance with its responsibilities. For the full story, subscribe to the The Concordia Sentinel's NEW E-Edition! |
