Ferriday man killed In Concordia crash
posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
A single vehicle crash in Concordia killed a man from Ferriday Saturday night.

According to the Louisiana State Police, troopers responded to the crash around 8:15 p.m. on U.S. Hwy 84 east of La. Hwy. 566. The crash involved a 2006 Chevrolet Avalanche, driven by Fred W. McClung Jr., 61 years of age. The Chevrolet was eastbound on U.S. Hwy. 84 when McClung Jr. lost control and exited the right side of the roadway.

After exiting the roadway, the vehicle collided with a large tree.

McClung Jr. was wearing his seatbelt, but was pronounced dead, according to Troop E.

Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.

While not all crashes are survivable, seatbelts can greatly decrease the occupant's chance of death and will greatly reduce the extent of injury, according to Troop E.

Troop E Troopers have investigated 62 fatal crashes in 2012, resulting in 67 fatalities.
